Snowboarder Dylan Alito Punched Out by Ground
by: Jimbo

Dylan Alito dripping with exhaustion.

ThirtyTwo team rider Dylan Alito knows perseverance - there's no doubt about it.

We don't know exactly how many times he attempted this wallride to frontflip before his nose exploded, but it sure does look exhausting.

I hope for his sake all the boys standing around at least brought him out to the bar later to drown his sorrows.

Good effort Alito!

STRIDE Gum Sponsors Shaun White
by: Jimbo

Shaun White is getting paid large by Burton, Oakley,
Target, Red Bull, BF Goodrich and now STRIDE Gum ...
and barley has to compete. WINNING!!
Shaun White will now have fresh breath to match his white teeth. Announced today STRIDE chewing gum will be supporting the superstar snowboarder and skateboarder. Now ranked as the #2 Most Powerful Athlete according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek (up from spot #50 in 2009), there's no better action sports icon to align with, as long as your pockets are deep enough.

Recently Shaun partnered with another brand somewhat out of the blue, BF Goodrich, which made its announcment just before X Games. This announcement comes ahead of the US Open, which would have been the second contest Shaun actually took part in this season. Since he's now not competing in The Open, it's perfect timing because he'll have something to do as he watches the rest of the best from the sidelines.

SHAUN WHITE AND RIDICULOUSLY LONG LASTING GUM TEAM UP IN 2011

EAST HANOVER, NJ/USA March 8, 2011 -- Stride, The Ridiculously Long Lasting Gum announced today a two-year deal with snowboarding and skateboarding champion and sports icon Shaun White. White, the No. 2 most powerful athlete in the U.S. according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek[1], has signed on as an official brand spokesperson and will be engaged in a variety of promotional activities throughout the coming months.

"Shaun is a long-time fan of Stride and embodies what the brand is all about: always on the cutting edge with the unexpected and groundbreaking," said Gary Osifchin, marketing director for Stride. "We are thrilled that Shaun will be representing Stride."

The name Shaun White is synonymous with excellence and defying convention. Whether he's winning gold medals at the Olympics and X Games or designing the next collection for his clothing lines, White is all about finding new ways to challenge himself and excel. Continuing his long-lasting streak, White recently took home his fourth straight superpipe gold at the 2011 Winter X Games.

"When Stride approached me about partnering with the brand, I knew it would be a great fit and I am looking forward to working with them on some pretty exciting things," said White.

Stride will announce specific program engagement activities featuring White throughout 2011, including giveaways, digital and social media campaigns, and public relations efforts.

Alexandria Everett - Would You?

Alexandria will next appear on March 9th

Alexandria posing for America's Next Top Model.

We love stories of "extreme sports" meeting the mainstream and here's one (sort of) that inspired us to bring back a long dormant column - Would You?

Meet 21-year-old Huntington Beach beauty, Alexandria Everett, who is soon to be featured as a contestant on an upcoming episode of "America's Next Top Model" set to air Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

Everett describes herself as someone who likes hanging out with her five brothers and one sister, as well as snowboarding, hiking, surfing and cliff-diving.

According to her web bio this all-around adventure girl stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and is vying for a chance to win a spread in Italian Vogue and a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl despite listing her job status as "unemployed."

Considering her obvious modeling ambitions we feel confident that she's in a win-win situation. Even if she fails to make the cut on America's Next Top Model she's already achieved what thousands of 21-year-olds around the country dream of daily - being an unemployed beach/ski bum with plenty of time to catch waves and shred pow.

And while we don't have any surf or snowboarding footage of Alexandria in the water or on the snow we did find a few photos from her modeling portfolio along with the clip(s) below that we certainly define as "action."

Snowboarding Priest Pursues PhD in Soulriding
by: Jimbo

Rev. Neil Elliot - complete with waterproof
vestments.

There's a number of examples of PhDs getting involved with snowboarding particularly as it relates to engineering and physics, but this is the first time we've seen a crossover into the existential realm.

Last week the Vancouver Sun reported news about an Anglican priest who'd been living in British Columbia that earned a PhD in "Snowboarding Spirituality."

The Rev. Neil Elliot of St. Andrew Anglican Church began his study 10 years ago by combining a love of snowboarding and a seeking to compare the high riders get with a spiritual sensibility.

Based at Red Mountain in the Kootenays Neil took to the term "soulriding" in identifying snowboarders that articulated their on-hill experiences with a spiritual twist.

Observing and interviewing 35 snowboarders Neil attempted to understand those that identified feeling "the flow" of riding which often equated to an out of body experience.

"It's the first PhD in snowboarding at all, so it's pretty unique," said Elliot. "It gave me an excuse to get out and participate in a sport I love and it provided me with a framework to examine human spirituality."

Now we're all for the notion of escaping the daily grind by grinding some rails or blasting some pow turns, but the idea that snowboarding offers a fast track to the Pearly Gates seems like a stretch.

Considering the study took place in BC's Kootenay interior it's more likely that the "out of body" experience described by locals had more to do with earth grown sources vs. transcendental support from Heaven.

Then again, Jesus's first miracle was turning water into wine in a the desert of Palestine. Perhaps if he were born in the mountains of western Canada, Christ's apostles would have been just as happy with some organic hydroponics.
