Dana Cummings, Veteran AmputeeCNN has been heavy on the surf tip this week. First covering surfers in Gaza and now a video feature on verteran amputees that have found surfing to be healing both mentally and physically. Dana Cummings a Gulf War vet who lost his leg in a car crash discovered surfing at the beaches of San Clemente, CA and became inspired to launch AMPsurf, an organization to help disabled war vets to discover their potential despite their injuries. A heart-warming tale of triump in the face of tragegy and yet another example of individual finding action sports a means to overcome life's more difficult circumstances, in the same vein as Jesse Billauer's Life Rolls On and Mike Rogers's Grind for Life.
In his own words Cummings states: "I wanted to prove that I was whole, and one of the ways to do that was to learn to surf," Cummings said. "When you become disabled, you feel trapped. And when I felt the first breath of freedom, of riding that wave, I was like, 'This is so good, so inspiring.' I wanted to share that feeling that I had with others."
