Authorities patrol off Surf Beach west of Lompoc
today near where a shark attacked and killed a
20-year-old man
Pretty horrid news today. A 19-year-old USCB student was killed this morning between 9am and 9:30 when a shark bit his leg off. A friend and fellow surfer nearby brought him to shore, but the Orange County man bled to death on the beach.
It's the first fatal shark attack in the area. No doubt disconcerting for Santa Barbara's robust surf community. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family.
