Sometimes kids bitch that where they grew up sucks. It's boring, nothing to do, nowhere to go. Teachers suck, parents are lame, there's too much authority. To that of course you can only say, quit crying. Particular in the face of learning about this.
Village kids sit atop a makeshift skatepark.In Uganda where kids grow up amongst abject poverty, war and isolation and an utter lack of civil support, they are left to fend for themselves. In such a challenging environment it's no wonder many succumb to crime, aimlessness and substance abuse.
So to read this story on BBC about the construction of Uganda's first skatepark, in which a young man learned about skateboarding, became enthralled and set about to bring it to his home for the benefit of his countrymen, was inspiring to say the least.
