Looks like the 29th Annual Burton US Open will have to go on without its darling, Shaun White. The two-time Olympian will undergo a "minor" foot surgery this week according to AP reports.
White has been keeping it mellow this winter overall only competing in the Winter X Games in the US, forgoing Dew Tour and Grand Prix competitions.
The action sports superstar certainly deserves a break after the media blitz from winning the 2010 Olympics including interviews with Leno, Letterman, Steve Colbert, Conan, LIVE with Kelly Ripa as well as appearing on a Wheaties box, a cover of Rolling Stone, a BF Goodrich commercial, traveling to Australia and spending countless hours skateboarding among a million other activities.
Just recently he was spotted catching waves in Hawaii and also testing out his acting chops. Alas, when to squeeze in a pesky foot surgery...
This will mark the third year in a row that White will not appear in the finals of the US Open having missed 2009 due to an ankle injury and 2010 after he withdrew from the competition.
One can only wonder if perhaps the US Open was held on the west coast would White's surgery schedule have changed? God only knows.
It could be simply that he's been trying too hard to up his slopestyle game and isn't quite feeling up for the icy landings of the ice coast.
