From the makers of Entourage

So you may have heard whisperings of this new HBO series from the producers of Entourage called "How to Make it in America" or even seen the first episode which aired last week. I don't have HBO so I can't say I've caught it, though billboards across LA are aggressively daring me to tune in.

Since I also missed the West Coast World Premier, I finally check out the website to get a better sense of what this show is all about, that and a little help from the NY Times review. NY hipster plays the lead and calls the shots.

They claim it's Entourage in reverse. New York neighborhood kids who try to make it big, not in Hollywood, but in their own backyard, essentially as hustling hipsters trying to launch a grassroots clothing brand.

This show will either find love or hatred from the Williamsburg-Silverlake set, depending on its authenticity. But considering the amount DIY entrepreneurs turning T-shirt irony into real life liquidity, chances are there exists an interested audience. Think fans of The Hundreds, WeSC or Benny Gold.

Nothing like a little nipple action to inspire
creativity.

Supporters of such brands and the lifestyle they embody have come of age in an era of self-promoted individuality, and range from sneaker-heads to social media social climbers characterized by youth, sex and fashion sense. "How to Make it in America" is the first show to attempt to capture the new age spirit of these street-wise scenesters.

How well it makes it among America's viewers, however, remains to be seen.
