Burton originally created the AK line in the late 90s to combat all the crappy outerwear that was flooding the market. A lot of single stitch, sample quality fabrics with little to know technical capability. As snowboarders began venturing further into places like Alaska, it become clear that Burton's team riders and others pushing the performance of their gear needed items that stood up to the elements. That evolution improved later when Gore-Tex got involved making Burton's AK a truly waterproof garment of the highest quality. And if that doesn't convince you check out what the slick marketing team at Burton put together. The music alone is enough to make you want to wear your jacket in the rain---though we prefer snow, of course.
