Arthur Guinness and his famous perfect pint.
Arthur Guinness founded Guinness Brewing Company 250 years ago today (9/24/1759) when he signed a 9,000-year lease on a disused brewery at St. James's Gate, Dublin. It costs him an initial 100 pounds with an annual rent of 45 pounds, which crucially includes water rights. The brewery covers four acres and consists of a copper, a kieve, a mill, two malthouses, stabling for 12 horses and a loft to hold 200 tons of hay. Arthur begins brewing porter and ale.
Since that time Guinness has become the one of the most popular beer brands in the world, served in over 100 countries. In fact, over 10 million glasses of GUINNESS stout are enjoyed every single day around the world, and 1,883,200,000 pints are sold every year - that's 1.8 billion.
So have a pint today... it'll "Give you Strength!"
